1000 Hills Community Helpers is situated in Inchanga, Kwazulu Natal in South Africa. The charity is a registered Non-Profit and Public Benefit Organisation, dedicated to helping those in need. With the dedication of their Volunteers, Staff Members and Partners, they strive to improve the lives of everyone who needs help within the Community. Their Community Centre endeavours to provide a safe and stable environment for those in need.
1000 Hills began in 1989 serving soup out of the back of a truck, the same year that TutorPro was founded! Today, they serve more than a 1000 meals per day. They also provide a medical centre, a pre-school, a counseling facility, an HIV/TB support group and a skills programme.
In 2010, TutorPro’s CEO Claire Revell lived in South Africa for some time. During this time, the support for 1000 Hills began and she implemented TutorPro’s eLearning to enhance the skills programs that they were running. Claire also implemented the office-based eLearning into several schools in the surrounding areas, to enhance their training curriculum.
Claire visits the Inchanga community every other year to volunteer. She always takes as much additional luggage as possible, (8 suitcases last time!) so that she can take clothes, shoes and books for all those visiting the Community Centre.
WeeeCharity is a not-for-profit UK registered charity that helps to relieve poverty by offering a complete recycling of computers and electrical equipment to businesses, residential and education facilities. Their goals are to protect and preserve the environment by recycling electrical waste to help reduce the amount of WEEE Waste that ends up in landfill through waste reduction, recycling, repair, refurbish and for resale back into the community.
Through this, they train volunteers, who are often unemployed or face disabilities and learning difficulties, with essential skills and knowledge in a safe working environment to improve their work ethic, preparing them for full-time employment.
As a tech company, we are regularly updating PCs and laptops, as well as other electrical equipment. When it’s time to switch out any devices, we send it all to WeeeCharity along with a donation to help with their ongoing costs.
